Native Ferns and Grasses for City Gardens: An Introduction

Tuesday, May 12, 2020

6:00 p.m.8:00 p.m.

Cindy Goulder (Ecological Landscapes / Urban Gardens) and GreenThumb

Ferns and grasses give lushness to our gardens, supplying textural ground covers, matrices for bright flowering plants, and eye-catching accents. This workshop will present regionally native species for the different and often challenging light, soil, and moisture conditions we must deal with, explaining their life cycles, ecological roles, and care needs.

Members of registered GreenThumb gardens in good standing will be eligible to receive native fern and grass plant starts to bring back to their gardens, while supplies last. We will start at City Lore for a presentation at 6:00 p.m and then walk to Liz Christy Community Garden (110 E. Houston St.) for the remainder of the workshop at 7:00 p.m.
